Sample Answer 1
Well, I’m never keen on solving puzzles actually, but there was a time when my cousin went travelling abroad and then she bought a jigsaw as a souvenir for me. So it’s actually a jigsaw consisting of over 300 irregular shaped interlocking pieces. And it took us about a week to solve this puzzle, but we didn’t do it every day. It was more like off and on. I wouldn’t say it’s very difficult. It’s, well, it’s very time consuming actually.
So at first we had to spread all the pieces out on the table and then I had to turn every single piece over so that the picture side could be facing upward. And then we had to separate all the pieces into different piles. The next step was to actually assemble the border, I think. Yeah, which is the trickiest part. Other than that, I think it went quite well actually.
I really think it was a great chance for me to bond with my cousin because we finally had some time to take a break from the digital world. We could put our smartphones away and we could concentrate on the same goal. And so I think it’s a great way to actually reconnect with your family.
Also, it helped me lower some stress because when I can immerse myself in it, I could take my mind off things that has been bothering me in my life, like study or work.
What’s more, I’ve read it somewhere that according to some psychologists, solving a puzzle is like doing a brain workout. So it can actually improve our visual spatial skills, which means that we can understand where objects are in space and it can make us more conscious, where it makes us better drivers and we can have a better idea of how things fit together. Like we can assemble furniture battery. We can actually get a lot of tangible real life benefits from it.
Part 3
1. Why do parents let their children play puzzles?
Parents often let their children play puzzles because they are beneficial for cognitive development.
Puzzles help kids improve their problem-solving skills and logical thinking. Additionally, they enhance hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills, which are crucial for young children. Playing puzzles also teaches patience and focus, as children need to concentrate for extended periods to complete them. Moreover, puzzles can be a great way for parents to bond with their kids, creating opportunities for quality family time. Overall, puzzles are not just fun but also educational, making them a popular choice for parents.
2. What kinds of puzzles improve people’s intelligence?
I think generally all kinds of puzzles improve people’s intelligence.
Number puzzles, crosswords and jigsaw puzzles because they ask people to think, to use their brain. However, I do think number puzzles help people to increase their intelligence the most.
Why? Because. I think that’s the most difficult. People need to think really hard in solving the number puzzles. Maybe it’s a sudoku, right?
3. Why are detective stories attractive to people?
Why are detective stories attractive to people?
So mainly because detective stories are mysterious, there’s a problem or a question people need to be able to find the answer for.
Maybe it’s a case of murder, so they follow the detective in solving the case.
And somehow people actually, if they consume the story in a in a written format or in a cinematic format, they kind of can think themselves as those detectives in solving mysteries, in finding out who the murderer is.
So it’s really exciting for them and that is why Sherlock Holmes stories are extremely popular in the world.
4. Which do you think is better? A detective movie or its original novel?
I think a movie is better.
I understand that a a story in the written format can provide people with more information, more clues.
However, today, I think most people prefer the cinematic format because they get to see the character being portrayed by the directors and they see the expression, the body movements. So they can feel like they are the detectives vicariously.
And another thing is that it’s easier for them to experience the story when they sit in the theatre. Probably they only need to spend like two or three hours.
However, if they read the detective stories, it, it can be excruciating. They don’t want to spend days on a story.
