Sample Answer 1
I’d like to talk about how I promised it to my grandma. My grandma was born in early 20th century and she had never got an opportunity to receive higher education. But she was a woman who had the wisdom of life. So I had loved talking to her since I was a child.
There was a talk between us when I was in year three. I was reading a novel to her, a novel about a young lady giving up her passion for music to raise the family.
All of a sudden, she asked me to promise her I would always put my dream first. I promised without knowing what dream meant. In the years after she passed away, there have been many times I have to choose between my dream and other things. Those situations have helped me gradually understand why she made me promise. Life is hard, and only dream can make it worth it. Thanks to that promise, I can’t picture myself doing what I’m not passionate about.
And when facing new challenges in my career and life, that promise is always there, encouraging me to embrace all the difficulties along the way. I’m glad I’ve kept my promise to Grandma.
Part 3
1. What kind of promises do people often make?
All right, there are a lot of types of promises like marriage vows and commitments made in legal contracts.
But I guess most of the time people make small and conditional and very specific promises in their daily life.
For example on the dinner table parents will tell their dollar or son I’ll driving to school if it rains tomorrow instead of just saying I’ll driving to school because it will cause confusion and understanding when people are not very clear with their language and intent.
And I also feel like being specific helps people keep their promises.
Like if people don’t know what exact commitments they are making, they probably will just break it.
2. Do parents in China make promise to their children?
Oh, well, it’s very often and it happens to almost every family.
I think parents always make some promise to their children, like when you have some great performance at school or have some good results in the examination, we will buy you some good present or take you to travel.
Yeah, these kind of promises I have heard for all of my life.
And yeah, around my friends, I think maybe parents always have some good intention or want to encourage their children to do better.
Yeah, but I think if you made a promise, you should keep it.
3. Do children keep their promises?
Well, I’m not sure about it because it definitely depends on the parenting of their parents, right?
For one thing, you know, some people often, you know, follow their promises just because they have already received the moral education from their parents, right?
Because sometimes their parents may told their children about it’s just respect to follow your promise and they realize it, right?
But sometimes because of the lacking of the promise, some people, I mean some children just make random promise to any other people in our society and never follow them.
So in the long run, this kind of the children may lose the credibility and no one would trust them.
So I think it’s really essential for parents and teachers to teach the students and children about the moral education and good manners.
And you know when you make promise, you must, you must follow it, right?
4. Why do some people fail to keep their promises?
Oh well, sometimes people just forget their promises, like when they’re being super busy with their lives or they have a lot of problems to deal with.
I mean, everybody has broken the promise at some point in their lives.
It’s understandable.
And other times people get carried away by those happy moments when commitments are attractive and easy to make.
But then later on they will realize they’re incapable of keeping their words, so they fail people’s trust.
However, the worst thing is some people never intend to keep promises at the 1st place.
They have bad intentions. They just say things people wanna hear to get what they want, and then they don’t care about the consequences.
