Sample Answer
(If I were younger, l’d say that there are a lot of ideal and perfect places for me to live, like a sea-view house, house in a mountain or a tree house. But it is not realistic). So practically speaking, the ideal and perfect place where I would like to stay is a relatively affordable and small apartment located in the heart of the city. Ideally, it would be sized between 60 and 80 square meters, which is perfect for me to live by myself if possible, I can manage to live there well with my future spouse and a child), I don’t want it to be really big, as it’ll be much harder to maintain and clean.
Basically, I want this apartment to have a minimalist style. Some sleek, modern furniture will be enough for me. Specifically, I’d prefer furniture pieces that are foldable, (So I can put them away when they are not necessary). So my living space can be efficiently maximized. This not only keeps the living area uncluttered but also allows for more flexibility in arranging the layout.
One special feature I’d insist on is a soundproof room dedicated to my hobbies. I’m quite fond of playing the piano and composing music, so having a space where I can indulge in these activities without disturbing others or being disturbed is crucial. This room would double as a reading nook and a gaming den, allowing me to lose myself in books or virtual worlds without any external interruptions, even if I find myself shouting in excitement.
A balcony with floor-to-ceiling windows is another must-have. The panoramic views of the cityscape would be breathtaking, offering a serene escape from the hustle and bustle outside. Moreover, residing in the city center offers unparalleled convenience. Shopping, dining, going to hospitals, and even commuting – whether it’s via subway or on foot to schools (if I ever have children). You know, they are all within close reach.
Yeah, that’s it I think. I have thought enough about this blend of comfort, convenience, and personal space. So, yeah, it would be an ideal place for me to stay.
Part 3
1. What are apartments like in your country?
Basically, many modern apartments are designed with efficient layouts, like open-plan living and dining areas, separate bedrooms, a balcony or a terrace.
Amenities often include elevators, central heating and cooling systems, and sometimes even security services.
In urban areas, high-rise buildings are common, offering panoramic city views. Yeah, I think that’s pretty much.
2. Why are apartments popular in some places while not in other places?
First of all, l’d say that apartments are particularly popular in urban centers due to the high population density and limited land availability. They offer a more affordable housing option compared to detached houses, especially for younger people who just start off their career. In contrast, apartments may not be as favored in rural or suburban areas where land is more abundant and people prefer the spaciousness and privacy of the standalone homes.
3. What would people normally consider when they rent or buy a house or an apartment?
Well, obviously, budget would be the priority. This is easy to understand, because budget directly influence the size, age and condition of the property. Apart from that, location is another key issue. People usually consider distance to work, to schools, and public transportation. And also, the quality of local amenities such as hospitals, shopping centers, and parks is also important.
Additionally, I think now, considering the real-estate industry in China, the reputation of the builder and the potential for future appreciation in property value, are often taken into account.
4. Do different people have different preferences for houses or appartments?
Absolutely, people’s preferences can’t be the same for sure. For instance, young singles or couples might prefer apartments for their convenience and modern facilities, while families with children might opt for houses for more space and privacy. Retirees might seek out quieter, suburban houses with gardens, while urban professionals might prioritize central locations and easy access to where they often go, like malls, hospitals, etc..
Cultural and personal tastes also influence choices; some may prefer traditional-style homes, while others embrace modern architecture. So people’s preferences of homes vary greatly based on individual lifestyles and needs.
5. Why do some people choose to live in the city center?
Of course because of the convenience. With easy access to shops, restaurants, entertainment venues, and public transportation, people can greatly shorten the time on commuting, buying daily necessities or going to the hospitals.
Secondly, in city centers, social and cultural activities are more abundant, providing opportunities for networking and leisure.
Additionally, the vibrant atmosphere and sense of community in city centers also appeal to many people, especially young people.
6. What do you think buildings will be like in the future?
Oh, that’s an interesting question. My first guess is that buildings will be more eco-friendly and sustainable. With increasing awareness about climate change, we’ll see more green buildings incorporating energy-efficient technologies like solar panels, rainwater harvesting systems, and advanced insulation materials. Also, smart homes will become more common, like automated household devices and Al, that can greatly enhance living comfort and security.
Yeah, these will be really futuristic, right?
