(2024) IELTS Speaking Part 1 Topic Roads And Streets

Oh, yes, it’s unbelievably busy, especially during peak hours like morning rush hours and evening commutes.
I live near a major intersection in the city center, so there’s always a steady flow of traffic, including cars, buses, taxis, and even the occasional motorcycles.
Weekends can be a bit quieter, but even then, the roads remain active with people and traffic.

Basically, most people cross roads on zebra crossings, which is the best way to ensure safety. But still, there are individuals who can’t wait till the traffic lights turn green, which is really dangerous.
Additionally, some busy roads have overhead bridges or underpasses for people to use, allowing them to cross safely without disrupting the flow of traffic.

Well, the newer, main roads and highways are generally well-maintained and in excellent condition, with smooth surfaces and clear markings.
However, some older residential streets and alleyways can be a bit bumpy and uneven, with cracks and potholes, which is a little annoying especially during rainy days. But, of course, the local government has been making efforts to improve these roads.

Yes, like what I just said, many smaller roads and residential areas should be repaired and upgraded.
For example, we will happy to see the better lighting, more pedestrian-friendly crossings, and regular maintenance to fill in potholes and smooth out uneven surfaces.
Also, I think the government should implement more bike lanes, given that more people in my hometown choose this green and healthy means of transport.

The roads in my area are usually quite manageable, with traffic moving smoothly for most of the day.
However, because there’s a kindergarten nearby, and when those tiny humans are being dropped off or picked up, traffic jams popping up during the morning and evening rush hours.

Oh, well, naturally, by following the traffic rules, right?
At those major intersections, pedestrians use designated crosswalks and wait for the traffic lights to turn green.
However, on smaller streets where traffic is lighter, we often cross more freely.

I’d say the roads here are in pretty great shape.
We’ve had a major facelift in the past few years, thanks to a citywide project that fixed up those pesky potholes and uneven surfaces.
As a result, the roads are now much smoother, providing a comfortable driving experience.

Honestly, I’m quite impressed with how far we’ve come.
The improvements over the past few years have really sorted out most of the issues we had before.
So I don’t think there’s a pressing need for further changes right now.
