(2024) IELTS Speaking Part 1 Topic Internet

Back in middle school, I got my first taste of the internet, mainly using it for research, gaming, and chatting.
You know, at that time, QQ was all the rage among my classmates, and practically everyone was hooked on it.

Fast forward to today, going online has become a daily routine for me. It seems like most of our work and study tasks are now internet-dependent.
Plus, social media has become a vital tool for staying connected and unwinding.

The internet has completely changed how we live. It’s made it so much easier to find info, chat with people, learn new stuff, and even find work. For me, I can’t imagine learning without it.
There’s just so much out there, way more than what you get in school.

You know, I gotta admit, there are times when I’m just scrolling through social media or watching videos, and before I know it, hours have passed!
It can definitely impact my productivity, as l sometimes start with a specific task but end up being drawn into a rabbit hole of entertainment.

Hmm, picturing life without the internet is really a challenge. I guess I’d probably spend more time with real books, take more leisurely strolls, actually talk to my friends face-to-face, try out some new hobbies, you know, just keep it simple.

I started using the internet in the late 90s when dial-up was the norm. It was all about that distinct modem sound connecting me to a world of information.
Initially, it was for school projects and playing simple online games, but it quickly became a tool for exploring a wider world.

I’m online pretty much all the time. Whether it’s for work, staying connected with friends, or catching up on the latest news, the internet is integral to my daily activities.
It’s hard to imagine a day going by without at least checking my email or scrolling through social media.

The internet has a profound impact on people’s lives by providing vast amounts of information and facilitating global connections.
However, it also shapes opinions and behaviors through the content we consume. It’s a powerful tool for both education and entertainment, but it also requires critical thinking to navigate through the wealth of content.

I believe the time spent online is time well invested. It’s a very efficient way to communicate with people, even though we are not based in the same place on Earth.
The internet helps bring people together, so I think it’s worthwhile to engage with it.

Without the internet, I’d probably turn to more traditional methods of doing things like visiting libraries for information and writing letters to stay in touch with distant friends.
It would definitely encourage me to engage more directly with the world around me and perhaps revive some old hobbies that don’t require a digital connection.

I started using the internet when I was senior two, specifically during the summer vacation.
That’s when my dad got a 486-type computer with a modem. So, that was the first time I had access to the internet. I logged into some chat rooms because, at the time, there was no social media, and chat rooms were where I met some very interesting people.
I also logged into music-themed BBSs and met even more people, which started my interesting online journey.

Every day. Since I began surfing the internet, it has become an integral part of how I live my life, blending both my online and offline experiences.
It’s like an artificial space where reality and virtual life are merged and inseparable in our days.

I think the internet is a web that literally links people’s brains. It doesn’t necessarily link people’s hearts, but it definitely connects their minds.
If there’s an interesting or significant idea, it can spread very quickly. It’s like a field of wheat, and the idea is like the wind.
After the wind passes, you can see the wheat bending over. It’s amazing to see the internet spread ideas just like the wind blowing through the air.

I think it would be very hard for me to get used to a life without the internet.
Nowadays, you can just send a message on WeChat and reach someone who is far away.
But if everything were to disappear, we would have to revert to a time when we only wrote letters to communicate with people. Honestly, it’s unimaginable.
