IELTS Speaking Part 1 Topic Chatting – Sample Audio

1. Do you like chatting with friends?

Sample 1: Yes, I like chatting with my friends. It’s great way to communicate and bond, and I feel comfortable enough to talk about everything that’s going on in my life.

Sample 2: Yeah, I love chit-chatting with friends cause it’s a great way to relax and socialize.

Catching up with an old friend every once in a while is always a pleasant and enjoyable experience.

I find it refreshing to have conversations with them, whether it’s talking about things going on in our lives, or future plans.

2. What do you usually chat about with friends?

Sample 1: I’ve got a lot of catching up to do with my friends. We have everything to talk about such as gossip, news about our business and our families, or a good movie. I’m really enjoying it.

Sample 2: My friends and I usually chat about our school assignments, dating life, or problems we’re facing.

I think we all feel comfortable sharing about our struggles or challenges.

Sometimes, we also talk about happy events or share funny stories with one another.

Sample 3: Basically, we talk about anything we are interested in or anything that’s concerning us.

We share with each other what’s going on in our lives, talk about our career plans, our family and sometimes share our opinions on current social events.

Recently, we’ve been discussing better ways to raise a child since my best friend just had a baby boy.

3. Do you prefer to chat with a group of people or with only one friend?

Sample 1: I prefer to chat with only one friend, because I’m kind of like quiet. Staying with many people makes me cranky.

Besides, when there are lots of people, you will find that everybody is talking and laughing, and it’s not conducive for free chit-chatting or heart-to-heart talks with someone that you trust.

Sample 2: I prefer chatting with just one friend at a time. I think that one-on-one conversations are usually more personal and transparent.

During these chats, I’m able to focus entirely on what the other person is saying and connect with them on a deeper level.

Sample 3: Personally, I like both. Group chats are fun and lively, especially when we’re all together and bouncing ideas off each other.

But I also value one-on-one conversations cause they allow for deeper connections and more personal discussions.

4. Do you prefer to communicate face-to-face or via social media?

Sample 1: It depends. I prefer face-to-face communication with my friends for I really enjoy spending time with them.

However, for those who may not be familiar, I’d rather communicate with them through social media because it’s quite awkward while sitting opposite one another chatting.

Sample 2: I prefer to communicate face-to-face rather than via social media.

I think in-person conversations help me connect better with the other person because I also get to see their body language and facial expressions.

In my opinion, these conversations feel more genuine and sincere.

Sample 3: To tell you the truth, I still prefer the old-fashioned face-to-face communication especially with friends, cause when you’re sitting there, you could see your friend’s expressions, their gestures, hear their tone of voice, and you guys might laugh all of a sudden.

I really enjoy that lively atmosphere.

5. Do you argue with friends?

Sample 1: Yes, I do have a fight with my friends. This is totally normal. We sometimes argue with family, let alone friends.

Fighting is an effective method of communication. Trying to understand each other and solving the problem is all that matters.

Sample 2: I rarely argue with my friends. We are all very understanding and supportive of each other.

Whenever we have any disagreements or conflicts, we make it a point to communicate and talk it out instead of arguing or giving each other the cold shoulder.

Sample 3: Well, disagreements happen from time to time cause my friends and I are all quite straightforward so we say things directly and sometimes we could even get into a fight but that’s completely fine cause we won’t take it personally.

We always hear each other out and try to put ourselves in each other’s shoes.
