IELTS Speaking Part 1 Topic Dreams
Sample Answer 1
1. Can you remember the dreams you had?
Well I do have dreams pretty often, but I usually can’t remember them in detail.
It’s more like small fragments, just flashes here and there rather than complete stories. Honestly they don’t seem to have much meaning.
2. Do you share your dreams with others? (or Are you interested in other people’s dreams?)
Well, actually, as I mentioned, you know, my dreams are usually just fragments, not full stories. But on real occasions I might have a more vivid dream, like flying in the sky to rescue someone. If that happens, I’ll share it with close friends because it’s pretty funny and exciting. But otherwise I just keep them to myself and most of the time I forget them as soon as I wake up.
3. Do you think dreams have special meanings?
Well actually, if you ask most Chinese people this question, I think the majority would say yes. We even have a book called Duke Zhou’s Dream Interpretation.
So if I have a vivid dream like arguing with someone, I might check the book to see if it’s a good or bad omen. It’s definitely a cultural thing, maybe with a hint of superstition.
4. Do you want to make your dreams come true?
Well, just to clarify, you’re asking about dreams I have during sleep, right? Well, if they’re good dreams like becoming super rich or experiencing something amazing, they’re sure I love for them to come true. But if they’re nightmares like a doomsday scenario, then absolutely not.
Sample Answer 2
1. Do you often remember your dreams
No, not really. I mean, when I wake up, I often have no recollection of what happened in my dreams. I just remember disconnected fragments of the dream which don’t really make any sense.
2. Do you share your dreams with others?
3. Do you think dreams have special meanings?
4. Do you want to make your dreams come true?
Occasionally for my daydreams. Haha. As I said, I don’t usually remember my dreams other than nightmares and obviously I don’t want nightmares to come true. I sometimes daydream about how my life would change if I won the lottery. But maybe not winning the lottery is better for me to chase a meaningful life with my own hands.
5. Do you like hearing others’ dreams?
Yes, I guess. A lot of people are haunted by their dream, and they really just need someone to talk to about it. Some are scared out of their mind if they see nightmares.
6. Do you think dreams will affect life?
Yeah, to a certain extent, I think. Some people are really affected by what they see in their dreams. If they see death or suffering, for example, they may interpret it as an omen, and they often take some precautions like being extra careful on the road. So yeah, I guess dreams do influence our behaviors.
7. Do you want to learn more about dreams?
Well, it’s not an area that I take a keen interest in, so I gotta say no. I’m sure dreams can reveal truly fascinating things about our brain and our cognition, but to be honest, I’m more of an art person, so I prefer to learn about music or culture rather than dreams.
