Sample Answer

Well, talking about a foreigner who speaks Chinese well, that must be my English teacher
Ted.

He is from America and has been in our department for a couple of years, instructing the course of oral English.

Ted is really well-liked among us as he is super nice. But the most striking thing about him is that he picks up Chinese so easily and is totally a fluent speaker right now.

In the very first year, he was determined to learn Chinese well.

He told us he made full use of every opportunity to practice his Chinese speaking, trying hard to immerse himself in the language environment.

He knew many Chinese people could speak English well, but he refused to speak his mother tongue.

When he was dining in the restaurant, he would mimic the way we described the food and worked hard to communicate with the waiters.

Later when his languages skills grew better, he started to read Chinese literatures such as the Journey to the West. Now he still keeps the bedtime reading habit.

I think he can be such a good Chinese speaker mostly because he understands that language is about real use.

As an English teacher, he notices many issues a second language learner has and avoids them himself.

Daring to speak is the most important initial step. Everything just comes naturally after that.
